Mark Stephen Clifton, author of There Goes the Neighborhood, is a native San Diegan and an award winning free-lance journalist. His articles have appeared in the San Diego Reader, San Diego Union Tribune, San Diego Family Magazine, and other local periodicals. He is the former president of Maranatha Surfing Association and holds a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do from Ocean Beach Martial Arts Blue Wave School where he is a retired instructor.

About There Goes the Neighborhood:  San Carlos was is an inland bedroom community. Ocean Beach was the bohemian jewel of San Diego. What tied these two communities together was not just beautiful weather. A war between gangs of outlaw bikers, the rampant abuse of drugs, serial killers, and suicide turned what might have been an idyllic existence into a dreadful one.
